VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Hausmann Nature Center opens on Sat. and Sun., June 4 – Oct 30 from 1 PM-4:30 PM if we have enough volunteers to staff.

There will be an orientation session at the Center on Wed., May 25 at 7PM and on Sat., May 28 at 2PM. This will last about an hour.

This is an opportunity to meet visitors and work in a beautiful facility.

Help us celebrate the beginning of summer! Summer Solstice Celebration is Saturday, June 18 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm at the new Mike Fort Picnic Shelter. See the attached SummerSolsticeCelebration-2016. Proceeds benefit snowmaking and other projects. Help is needed. Contact Rita if you are available to help with set up, admission, food or beverage.

Spring is the time of year park staff and certified volunteers  do prescribed burns at Lapham Peak to help control invasive species and help rejuvenate prairie plants. Buchthorn Buster Duane Stein created a video of a 2015 prairie burn at Lapham Peak. Enjoy the prairie burn video.

Buckthorn Busters (a group of volunteers) have cleared invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle. Work is in all areas of the park. The group works Monday – Friday 9 am to noon. For more information contact park office.
